Maybe Blogging Just Prepared Me For Facebook

In March 1999, I went to Las Vegas for Spring Break. One late afternoon/early evening, I was just out of the shower and getting ready to go out for the night. I was staying at the Mandalay Bay and had a west facing room with floor to ceiling windows. The sun was just starting to set and it bathed the room in a really amazing light. I'd spent the day at the pool and was a little sunburned because I still had Utah winter skin. The radio was on because back then I didn't travel with iPod, iPod speakers, and a catalogue of thousands of songs. I wasn't really paying too much attention to the radio because in between songs there were frequent traffic reports and commercials. Then all of a sudden I heard something about "sunscreen" in kind of a freaky voice. I stopped and listened to the radio. I heard this, and I honestly wondered if God was talking to me:

Baz's words of wisdom still come to me on an almost weekly basis. Sometimes it's the bit about the race being long, sometimes it's appreciating youth, sometimes it's "you are not as fat as you imagine", and sometimes it's everyone should live in NYC once in their life but leave before it makes them hard. The whole thing is just amazing and today I really wanted to hear it in its entirety. Maybe you do, too.

It's today's song.

Everywhere But Here

I'm always getting e-mails of videos set in train stations in Europe, or prisons in Thailand, where big groups of people all of a sudden burst into synchronized dance and song. While casual, unsuspecting passersby are caught totally by surprise and thoroughly entertained.

Why can't it happen here? I mean would Mormon CONFERENCE be like the perfect stage for something like this? An ambitious group of Mormons could totally pull this off and give their brothers and sisters a great treat. Consider this a formal request.

There is some sort of resurgence happening.

With respect to obscure 70s hits. To wit, I've been seranaded twice in the last week - these are the songs:

Public Service Announcement

Onion dicing is probably one of my worst culinary skills. (And because my culinary skills aren't much to speak of, that really isn't saying much.) So I decided to improve myself and step up my game. I no longer dice onions. I brunoise them.

See here.

Revolutionary.

I recently went to Palm Springs. I had the foresight to take an inflatable beach ball. As luck would have it, a net was set up at one of the hotel pools. I suggested to my sister and brother-in-law that we have a water volleyball match. I had no idea my sister was Gabrielle Reece. After getting spiked by her one to many times, I had to finally suggest that we play more like Playboy bunnies at the mansion pool and less like the volleyball scene from Top Gun.
